Seven Questions to ask a personal brand photographer before you hire them

Your brand image is a vital part of your business so it’s understandable that the process of finding the right photographer can be overwhelming.

You know you need professional imagery to stand out in a saturated market. You’re ready to capture your story and take your business to the next level. So, where do you begin? Research research research…..

In your quest to find the perfect personal brand photographer near you I’ve compiled 7 questions that I feel you need to ask BEFORE signing a contract. Check out the list below

1. How does the process work? 

   Your main goal here is to see how in depth the photographer goes with your business. Some photographers have planning sessions, questionnaires, mood boards etc. A strong brand shoot tells a story in a strategic way. It is not a “show up and shoot” session so make sure you know what their process is like.

2. Have you worked with entrepreneurs & small businesses before?

A brand shoot is not a portrait or wedding session so it’s important to know if they have experience working with brands and understand the different needs that your business has

3. How many outfits can I bring?

Choosing your outfits is probably the most stressful part of preparing for a brand photoshoot. Having a good variety of images is important to be able to tell your story and

4. How many locations will we shoot at and who is responsible for securing the location. 

Just like having variety in your clothes is important having a good mix of locations is key too! As a basic rule of thumb you should be able to achieve at least three different location “looks” for your shoot. Also, it’s important to know WHO will be securing these locations. The last thing you want is to show up and be kicked out of your favorite coffee shop 🙁

5. What is the cost and what is included? 

I get it, price can be a big factor when choosing a photographer. When you are searching you will find that this is going to vary greatly depending on location, experience, what’s included etc. Some photographers include hair and makeup while others don’t. Some have a team or work solo. So when searching for a photographer it’s good to have a basic understanding of your needs.

6. Where are you located? 

Where is the photographer located? Are they near you? If not, are they willing to travel? If so, what are their travel fees? 

7. What is your availability? 

It’s a good to have a general idea of the project timeline and how long it will take from start to finish so that you are not missing any deadlines.
