5 Quick ways to improve your Instagram profile

Instagram is one of the most popular social media marketing platforms. Over 70% of businesses in the US use Instagram for marketing and 81% of people use Instagram to research products or services. This means you have a big opportunity to get your business in front of a much larger audience.  If you’re ready to use Instagram to drive traffic to your business keep reading to learn 5 quick ways to quickly improve your Instagram profile to start maximizing your marketing efforts.

1. Update your Profile photo

Your profile photo is one of the first things that people see when they land on your page, it’s also the image that people will see when you comment on posts/DM’s etc. What makes a good profile photo?

  1. Use good lighting and contrast
  2. Get up close and personal and show your face. This is not the time to hide behind a logo if you’re a personal brand
  3. Center the image-no off centered photos
  4. Show your personality!
  5. Use an eye-catching pop of color for your backdrop
  6. Use a professional photo if possible- (first impressions matter- read HERE to learn about the importance of your brand image )

2. Overhaul your bio

Your Instagram bio serves a HUGE purpose in attracting quality leads to your account. When a potential lead lands on your account your bio needs to quickly tell them a few things,

1. Who you help

2. How you can help them

3. What they can expect from your page

4. a CTA (call to action).

You can only include 150 characters in your bio so you have to make sure that it’s clear and to the point.

A cool new update on Instagram is the name field. Your name field is now searchable and you can use 30 characters!! This is great because now you can use this more strategically when writing your bio!

3. Update those highlights

Think of your highlights like your website pages. What do you want people to know/see/learn? Helpful tips on updating highlights ↓

  1. Brand them
  2. Include and “About me” or “Start Here” so you can introduce yourself to new audiences
  3. Showcase products or services
  4. Answer FAQ’s
  5. Highlight customer testimonials
  6. Promote events/launches

4. Post quality photos

Quality images really helps your brand stand out and look more professional. We live in a day and age all new phones have such amazing cameras that there really is no excuse to post poor quality images, especially if you’re a professional. Blurry photos with bad lighting just aren’t going to cut it. If you’re struggling with getting good lighting for for you photos you can do a couple of things like standing near a window or an open door and investing in a ring light and if your photos are blurry get a tripod.

5. Show your face!!

I’ll say this till I’m blue in the face, PEOPLE BUY FROM PEOPLE NOT BRANDS.

Your audience wants to see the person behind the brand, they crave connection and realness. Statistics show that photos that contain a face in it have a much higher engagement that photos with no faces. This tells us that our audiences want to connect with us on a deeper level.

If you struggle to show your face on camera I highly recommend hiring a brand photographer that can capture a large variety of images for your social content. You get dressed up once and you have content for months!

I get it- not everyone has endless amounts of time to take pictures of themselves, knows how to pose themselves in a flattering way, or even wants to do their makeup everyday so having a brand shoot will solve this for you!
